Dan Corley

From the Head of School

Each morning, the Community Prep family—students, teachers, and administrators—begins its day reciting the following words, in spoken and sign language, by educator Marva Collins:

This day has been given to me fresh and clear. I can either use it or throw it away. I promise that I shall use this day to the fullest, realizing that it can never come back again. I realize that this is my life to use or to throw away.

We’ve known for years that these words speak to our students, but I was still surprised when a graduate recently told me that he included this quote, and Community Prep’s impact on his life, in his graduate school application essay. As we celebrate 24 years of teaching students to set high goals and achieve them, I am constantly reminded that Community Prep teaches students so much more than academics. Our school is a crossroads, where a truly diverse group of students come together to learn, share, achieve, dream, grow, create, play, and thrive, knowing that they will go on to some of the best high schools and colleges in the country. So many people’s efforts make Community Prep the success it is today—students, parents, teachers, staff, administrators, trustees, donors, and volunteers. I invite you to learn more about our Community Prep family, through this web site and, hopefully, a visit to our school. You are always welcome.

Peace,

Dan Corley
Head of School
