PrepPlus, the school's academic support and enrichment program, runs from 7:15 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Among its staff members are high school and college-age Community Prep graduates who serve as tutors and mentors. Brown University students, RISD students and local residents also serve as volunteers.

Offerings include:
  • an after-school silent study with teachers and tutors
  • group and individual tutoring sessions offered before, during and after school hours with tutors, mentors and the school's reading specialist
  • an after-school enrichment program that includes:
    • music lessons
    • arts and crafts
    • sports and recreation
    • graphic design
    • local foods project (nutrition and gardening)
    • field trips (for example, a class in the dark room at AS220, a hike to Purgatory Chasm, a trip to a farm, or an afternoon at the movies)
    • playwriting, drama club and performances
    • dance clases: jazz, modern, hip-hop, salsa
    • photography
    • filmmaking
  • supervised use of the school's computer room and library

CP's Got Talent

We believe that at CP there are lots of talented students, and this is what CP’s Got Talent is all about!  Students will express themselves through what they do.  More information on this competition will be sent home soon.

Students will compete for the final prize.  Prep+ will offer two practice sessions only (the rest students must practice on their own).

Students who wish to compete must attend all 3 of the above dates!!!

 

Dance Club

Students will have the opportunity to choose to either dance alone, with a partner or in a group.  They will select their own music, create their own choreography and compete against other CP students.  What type of dance can you do? Step, Tap, Ballet, Latin Dance, Free Style?  Students will perform at the Spaghetti Dinner on November 19th.  The Winner will be selected that day. Open to boys and girls from grades 3-8.  For more information call Gina or Lourdes at 521-9696.


Spaghetti Dinner

Will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 from 6pm - 8pm.  The winners of CP's Got Talent will be opening and the Dance Club Teams will be doing their presentations, winners of the Dance Club will be selected that day.  There will also be a room where students will be showcasing their After School Prep+ work during the first trimester.  The cost of entrance is $6.  Kids from ages 0-5 are FREE.
