Read To Succeed awarded $1,000 college scholarships to 131 Community Preparatory School students who completed its summer reading challenge. The awards ceremony was held at Community Prep on October 27.
Read To Succeed’s literacy program provides $1,000 college scholarships to students who read and complete six books and comprehension tests.
This year, more than 500 students from Community Prep, Bishop McVinney Catholic Elementary School, Highlander Charter School, San Miguel School of Providence, and Sophia Academy participated in the program, receiving more than 3,200 books from Read To Succeed before summer break.
More than 300 of these students - with 131 being Community Prep students - received scholarships in Rhode Island’s 529 CollegeBound Saver plan.
